ADIL JABBAR, 42

 

Adil´s parents came to Finland after the Iranian Revolution in 1979.  A  drifter with a wrestler's appearance and mellow character, who got into jail and ended  in trouble with a dangerous gang. 

 

TAISTO KALTIO, 76

 

The owner of Alva Aqua. Sturdy, but sweet man. Looking forward to retiring soon. A devoted husband and a loyal old-school employer with a hippieish view of the world. A dark secret in his past makes otherwise positive person a bit melancholic.

 

RAIJA, 39

 

A middle aged, boozy neo-nazi, who still lives in her mother’s garage. Spends her days on the internet and fixing an old car. Her only real contact with the outside world is Lilja, a teenage girl, who she once rescued from a potential gang rape. 

 

JARI SAPALA, 40

 

Overcompensating mayor of Alvajärvi. He hides well his low self-esteem and is a borderline sociopath, willing to do anything to get ahead in politics - and in business. 

 

FEDJA

 

An agitated, drug abusing recluse. A strange mixture of caveman and cyber warrior. Endlessly roaming through the wilderness, hauling his earthly possession and radio transmitter in his backpack. Runs a pirate radio station “Radio Free Lapland”.

 

LAURA SAPALA, 40

 

Mayor Sapala´s wife. An internationally renowned saw player and a highly independent soul. Exhaustive touring has estranged her a bit from her daughter and husband. She poses naked for an amateur painter, Larry, and finds her soulmate in the newcomer, Adil.

 

LILJA, 17

 

Quiet, clever and strong-willed daughter of Jari and Laura Sapala. Rejected 

by her school mates, befriended by the village neo-nazi, Raija, she feels 

quite an outsider and can’t stand her parents.

 

LARRY MC QUEEN, 50

 

An amateur painter, who grows his own pot and loves fast cars. He came to Alvajärvi years ago as a winter tire tester and fell in love with Finland’s pure nature, the people and especially the 70’s progressive rock. As a former insider of the multinational corporation world, Larry knows how to defend Alvajärvi from being exploited. His friendship with former journalist Arja Makkonen grows into a romantic relationship. 

 

ARJA MAKKONEN, 50

 

A highly intelligent former journalist, who moved to Alvajärvi to get away from click- bait –journalism. A slightly bitter and sharp-tongued, yet deep underneath a warm and caring person. Seems that she reads at all times and everything: newspapers from around the world, books on all subjects, fiction and non-fiction. On the verge of being a ”functioning alcoholic.”

 

MARLA BACKMAN,32

 

A ”mole” sent to Alvajärvi by a multinational corporation, EcoAqua.

Rock hard business woman in a hippie’s kaftan. As an heiress, she is born 

to the cold world of big business. For Marla life is a game and success is always measured by money. 

 

JALMARI, 60

 

A rude and ruthless man, almost a mythical character, 

who seems to know everybody, their secrets - and weak spots. 

 

ANNA KALTIO, 73

 

Taisto’s wife and ”conscience”. In a way the conscience of the whole village.
